"Do your best!"
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Cub Scouting Organization?
Scouting is a world-wide movement with more than 28 million scouts and leaders in 160 countries.
In the United States, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) organization is divided into councils, which,
themselves are divided into Districts.  Pack 1225 is within the Longhorn Council and the Topsanah
district.

What is the purpose of Cub Scouting?
Cub Scouting is a year-round family oriented part of the BSA program designed for boys who are in
first through fifth grades (or are 7 – 10 years old).  Parents, leaders and organizations work together
to achieve the ten purposes of Cub Scouting:

Character Development
Spiritual Growth
Good Citizenship
Sportsman and fitness
Family understanding
Respectful relationships
Personal Achievement
Friendly Service
Fun and Adventure
Preparation for Boy Scouts

How are Cub Scouts ranks assigned?
Cub Scouts is comprised of boys in grades 1st through 5th.  Each grade level corresponds to a
specific rank:

1st grade: Tiger
2nd grade: Wolf
3rd grade: Bear
4th grade: Webelos I
5th grade: Webelos II

What is a den?
A den is a small group of boys (typically 5-8).  All the boys in a den belong to the same rank.  .  Each
den is identified with a unique den number.  There may be multiple dens at each rank level, each
having its own den number.

What is a pack?
The cumulative group of scouts and leaders comprise the pack.

Who is our sponsor?
Our charter organization is St. Nicholas church, located at 4800 Wichita Trail, Flower Mound, TX
75022-5121. The organization, through the pack committee, is responsible for providing leadership,
the meeting place, and support materials for pack activities.

When are the den meetings?
Den meetings are typically held once a week.  The day of the week is chosen by the den leader.
Please consult the attached rank specific pages for more information.

Where are the den meetings held?
Den meetings can be held at the den leader’s home or at another location.  For Pack 1225, currently
all the dens meet at St. Nicholas Church.

When is the pack meeting?
Generally, the pack meeting is held on the 3rd Thursday of the month.  It is at 7:00 pm in the Liberty
Elementary school cafeteria.  The meeting usually runs about one hour.

What’s the purpose of the pack meeting?
The monthly pack meeting brings together boys from every den, their leaders, and their families. All
awards are given out at the pack meetings.  We want to recognize each scout’s accomplishments in
front of the pack.  The pack meeting is also a time to get information on upcoming events. The pack
meeting gives the boys a larger experience beyond their own dens, and helps them to connect their
individual activities to the entire Cub Scouting program.

How much does it cost to join?
The annual cost is $23.25.  This includes the registration fee, subscription to Boys’ Life magazine,
and insurance.  Pack 1225 does not charge pack dues.

What is the Blue and Gold banquet?
The Blue and Gold banquet is an annual scouting celebration. The banquet is held every year in
February.  This is very special, because it is where all rank badges are awarded.  Beginning in
September, each scout will begin to work on his rank’s requirements.  These will be completed by
February.  Then we will recognize the scout and his parents for all the hard work the scout has done
with the help of his parents.  We also recognize parents and pack leaders for their work in the Pack's
success.

What are Beltloops?
Beltloops are awards that any cub scout can earn and are worn on their belt.  There are many
academic and sports beltloops to choose from.  Each beltloop has 3 requirements that the scout
must complete.  There are also pins that can be earned in the same areas as the beltloops, but
require more requirements to be completed.  A
Cub Scout Academics and Sports Program Guide
can be purchased at the Scout Shop with all of the details or you may visit the
US Scouting Service
Project website.
